ABOUT VANESSA ⋆𐙚₊˚⊹♡
Predominantly shooting digital portraits, brand campaigns, and fashion editorials, I’ve created this outlet in order to showcase my love and fiery passion for the creative arts and the fashion space. This may be just a portfolio to you, but to me — this is a culmination of my progress as a multi-disciplinary artist.
As a 1st generation Vietnamese-American, I draw a lot of my inspiration of my work through my feelings growing up Asian in an American society. A lot of the times growing up, I’ve often felt torn between the feelings of wanting to assimilate into American culture and being embarrassed of my Vietnamese background. It wasn’t until I’ve started surrounding myself with other Asian creatives in college (University of California, Irvine) & post-college where I felt completely comfortable in my own skin and owning the fact that I can be unapologetically Vietnamese however I please. It's unfortunate to be ashamed of where you come from, and I want to help recreate the narrative around it so that others don't feel as alone as I did growing up.
I also find inspiration through other art forms such as drawing, sewing, digital media, cinematography, and sculpting.
And to get myself out of my own head, I love spending time with my family, going to museums, and just being outside. I’ve found that inspiration can be found in anything — as long as you romanticize your life.
